A test of 2 BLISTER RESISTANT SOCKS
Trying to prove the effectiveness of blister resistant socks in Seattle Backpackers Magazine via Gear, Rebecca Walsh set out to test two popular brands of such socks – the Fitsok ISW and the Balega Blister Resistant Quarter – in the field.
Balega Blister Resistant Quarter
The makers of Balega Blister Resistant Quarter claim that their socks prevent hot spots and blisters. Having blister prone feet, she was skeptical of this claim and decided to test them in several extreme conditions considered to be more likely to result in the development of hot spots and blisters.
The socks fit very well and were snug around the ankles and arches. She then exposed the pair of socks to significant abuse: running in the rain, walking on sandy walkways and so on. The socks stayed in her feet and never slid off f from the ankles even when shuffled in puddles of water for extended periods. At the end of the test, no blisters had formed on her feet.
She faced one major setback though; the socks failed to wick away the sweat as she expected and she could feel hot and heavy even on chilly mornings.

The maker also claims that the fact that the ISW’s are made from Isolwool – a combo of polypropylene and merino wool – they are capable of fighting bacteria. Hence, they help keep the feet clean and fresh.
Rebecca Walsh was excited to put this claim to test and wore the same pair of socks consecutively for a week to test if they could get crusty and nasty. They did, but not before five days of abuse.
Fitsok ISW No-Show Cuff produces impressive results in cold and hot environments. They would keep her feet within comfortable temperature ranges. At the end of the test, her feet were devoid of blisters or hot spots.
